Have you ever wondered how Trex gets its bend? The answer lies in a process called co-extrusion. In co-extrusion, multiple layers of material are extruded simultaneously. This allows for different materials to be combined into a single piece, with each layer serving a specific purpose.
For example, the inner layer of a Trex board is made from recycled wood fibers, while the outer layer is made from tough polyethylene plastic. This combination gives Trex its strength and flexibility. During the co-extrusion process, the different layers are combined under high pressure and heat. As the material exits the extruder, it is passed through a series of rollers that help to shape it into a board. Once it has cooled and hardened, the board is then cut to length and ready for use. Thanks to co-extrusion, Trex can create strong and durable boards that are also flexible enough to be bent into shapes.
